Ingredients:

  • 1 cup yellow lentils (moong dal)
  • 2 cups spinach (palak), chopped

  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the lentils in cold water and soak them in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Add the soaked lentils, chopped onions, tomatoes, garlic, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt to taste in a pressure cooker.
  3. Add enough water to cover the lentils and vegetables.
  4. Close the pressure cooker lid and cook on high heat for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils are fully cooked and soft.
  5. Turn off the heat and let the pressure release naturally.
  6. Open the lid and add chopped spinach to the cooked lentils.
  7. Stir well and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the spinach is cooked.
  8. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil or ghee in a separate pan and add cumin seeds. Let the cumin seeds splutter.
  9. Pour the tempering over the cooked dal and spinach.
  10. Mix well and serve hot with rice or roti.
